ARTIST STATEMENT: Output 3 - Mao
What: Mao is a representational art piece with the subject being the artist’s cat who has the same name as the output. The artist says the most defining feature would be the texture of the painting as it’s a contrast to the red. The paint on the cat itself was carefully spread out with the artist’s signature protractor to look like fur (or to simply have some texture) while the paint on the outer parts was added for consistency.

Why: The artist sees this cat almost every day. He was taken into the artist’s care after being the only remaining kitten out of the litter that was left outside the artist’s house in a small box. As an ode to this cat, he was made the subject of the piece.

How: Admittedly, the artist is running out of materials to use despite Mao and DisMaorphia being the third and fourth output of the term. The process was one unplanned move after another, pushing the artist to make do and go with the flow with caution. The ink cartridges used were cut open at the tip and the artist points that edge at the board and squeezes the end of the tough plastic. It hurt, for sure, but the unexpected outcome of the ink and board hurt even more. Of course, there were smudges and other unwanted parts but the artist kept pushing — under the motive that his outputs favor improvisation and uncertainty.
